How to Install Easykon for KNX

To perform the installation of Easykon for KNX in just a few moments, follow the steps outlined in this short article. At the end of this guide you will finally be able to make a KNX home automation system smart.

Warning:

For your safety and that of the components, turn off the power to the electrical system using the circuit breaker before proceeding with the installation of Easykon for KNX.

Requirements:

  • Power supply 12/24 V AC/DC 0.1 A (e.g., 12 V power supply)

  • KNX BUS cable

  • Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector for connection to local area network (LAN)

  • List of group addresses or ETS project files (.xml or .knxproj) of compatible accessories

Installing Easykon for KNX is very simple, you just need to follow the steps below:

  1. Clip Easykon for KNX to the DIN rail of the control cabinet;

  2. Connect the 12/24 V 0.1 A power cable to the connector on the top left;

  3. Connect the Ethernet cable to the top right connector;

  4. Connect the KNX bus cables following the color of the connector on the bottom side;

  5. Check the wiring is correct and reconnect the power supply.

After about 30 seconds, the status light of Easykon for KNX turns solid blue.

Now you can Map accessories within Easykon for KNX.

Mapping Easykon for KNX

Here is a quick guide to learn how to complete the mapping process and choose which KNX system accessories to connect to Apple HomeKit, Google, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT, Home Assistant worlds, and the Freedompro smart home management app.

Access the Easykon for KNX web interface to map the accessories. For each one, enter a name, choose the correct category and complete the parameters with Command and Status group addresses.

Access via IP address

First of all, you need to access the Easykon for KNX interface directly from the local network using the IP address assigned to Easykon by the router.

Requirements:

Easykon for KNX IP Address

You can find Easykon's IP address by using local network scanning software, such as Lanscan for MAC operating systems or Advanced IP scanner for Windows. The IP address can also be found on the router's configuration page.

To access the web interface, proceed as follows:

  1. Enter Easykon's IP address in your browser

  2. Click on "Sign in" (or "Login")

  3. Press the "Sign in / Unpairing" button on the front of Easykon for KNX

When the configuration interface has finished loading, it will be possible to continue with accessory mapping.

Mapping KNX accessories and using the interface.

The Easykon for KNX web interface allows system accessories to be mapped and automatically made compatible with Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT, Home Assistant, and the Freedompro app.

Accessories configuration area

Here you can add, edit or delete accessories and features, as well as search through those already mapped.

You can search by the name of the accessory, using the larger bar, or filter them by category. If you go inside an object to configure it, when you return you will find the list with the filter still active.

Check the compatibility of the accessory by consulting the list of Easykon compatible accessories.

To add an accessory:

  1. Click on the "+" icon in the upper left corner;

  2. Select the type of accessory you want to configure;

  3. Enter the name you want to assign to the object (by changing the name on the individual platform, it will not be changed on the other platforms);

  4. Enter the status and command group addresses for the mandatory parameters;

  5. Enter the group addresses for optional parameters to enable the related functionality;

  6. Click Save to map the accessory.

Warning:

If you go back without saving, the changed information will be lost.

Using Apple HomeKit you can expand the functions of an accessory by adding up to two additional functions.

To add more functions to the accessory:

  1. Click on "Add a new feature to the accessory."

  2. Select the correct category;

  3. Complete the parameters with the required group addresses;

  4. Click on "Save" to complete the operation.

Warning:

You can't change the main feature of an accessory. If you want to change it, create a new accessory and delete the previous one.

To replace an accessory:

  1. Enter accessory parameters by clicking on the edit icon.

  2. Change the name, parameters or features.

  3. Click "Save" to complete the operation

KNX project import area

To make accessory mapping even easier and faster, the KNX project structure can be imported directly into the Easykon for KNX interface. You can choose to import an .xml file or directly the .knxproj project file.

Mapping even faster! You can import the .knxproj or .xml file generated in ETS, view the KNX project structure, and drag and drop the group address directly into the web interface for even faster configuration.

To upload the project:

  1. Click the icon in the upper right corner and then "Select File."

  2. Select the file to be imported .xml or .knxproj

  3. Click "Import" to complete the operation

How to set up Easykon for KNX with Freedompro Home

  • Download the app Freedompro;

  • Accept permissions requested by the application and log in with your Freedompro account. If you do not have an account you can create one through Apple, Facebook or Google;

  • Click on the "+" in the upper right corner;

  • Click "Detected Modules";

  • Select your Easykon Module:

  • Enter the 8-digit security code on the front of the module;

  • You can now place your accessories in rooms to use the Freedompro app or skip them by clicking “Skip”;

  • Once you have completed the procedure click on "Done".

Your Easykon for KNX is now ready to use.

Status Led

You can check the color of the status LED located on the front of your Easykon for KNX to immediately view and understand the status of the device.

Here is a list of the meanings of the colors of the status LEDs:

:blue_circle:

Steady blue: The system is up and running

:blue_circle:

Flashing blue: The system is in the process of being reset or disconnected

:magenta-led:

Steady magenta: No connection to the KNX BUS

:magenta-led:

Flashing magenta: No connection to the Internet

:red_circle:

Steady red: Initializing the system

:red_circle:

Flashing red: Ethernet cable disconnected

Settings

In the settings you can:

  • Back up and restore the configuration

  • Change the panel language

  • See all product information

  • Create the access code

  • Change the physical address of Easykon KNX

  • Log off

To access settings:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Click on the wheel icon in the top right-hand corner

To return to the configuration panel, press the X in the upper right corner.

Backup

Making a backup is simple. Perform the back up to create a copy of the configurations of all the accessories so you can restore your work at any time.

The backup does not contain:

  • Imported KNX project

  • Users or private settings

To backup:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Backup and restore" from the top menu

  4. Click on the "Backup" button

  5. Save the file to your computer

Restore

The restore function returns the accessories and their parameters to the state they were in when the backup was performed.

Warning:

Restore is an irreversible operation. All existing accessories will be replaced by those restored.

Requirements:

  • Have a compatible backup file

To restore:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Backup and restore" at the top

  4. Click on "Choose an .easykon file" and select the file from your computer

  5. Click on "Restore"

You can restore a backup using an .easykon file created with a firmware version equal to or greater than the one in use.

How to change the interface language

To change the interface language:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Language" in the top menu

  4. Select the flag of the desired language

Note: This operation does not affect the language chosen in the applications and voice assistants paired with Easykon for KNX.

Device information

In this section you will find all the information on the product.

To view this information:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Device Information" in the top menu

Access code

The access code allows you to access to Easykon for KNX interface without pushing the button on the front side of the product.

Using the access code is very useful if Easykon for KNX is installed in a place that you cannot reach easily.

To create the access code:

  1. Access to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Access code" in the top menu

  4. Click on "Create access code"

Memo:

The access code will be visible just once, then it will be hidden for safety reasons. We encourage you to save it right away after creating it.

Note: If you don't remember the access code, to enter in the interface you have to push the "Sign in / Unpairing" button. From inside the interface you will be able to create a new code anytime.

KNX physical address

The KNX physical address allows to identify in an unique way a device installed on the KNX bus.

As default, Easykon for KNX takes the address 15.15.250 in every system in which it is installed.

To change Easykon KNX physical address:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "KNX physical address" in the top menu

  4. Change the address

  5. Click on "Save" to complete the operation

The accepted values are:

0 - 15 / 0 - 15 / 0 - 255

Change Easykon KNX physical address can be useful if the address 15.15.250 is already taken in the system where you are installing the bridge.

How to Logout

The logout function allows you to safely disconnect from the interface.

To log out:

  1. Log in to the web interface

  2. Enter settings (gear wheel icon)

  3. Select "Logout" in the top menu

  4. Press the "Logout" button

How to Reset Easykon for KNX

Resetting Easykon for KNX serves to eliminate all previous configurations, users and preferences and return the product to factory settings.Attenzione:

The reset is an irreversible operation. All existing accessories will be reset.

So, are you sure to reset Easykon for KNX? Well, follow this guide, it' very simple!

  • Press and hold the "Reset" button on the front with the help of a paperclip until the status light starts flashing blue

Easykon for KNX: IP Gateway

Easykon for KNX allows operation as a KNX IP gateway enabling the listed functions:

  • Bus monitoring

  • Groups monitoring

  • Programming the entire KNX system directly from the ETS without the need for dedicated IP gateways.

You can have a maximum number of 10 simultaneous connections.

Requirements for using these functions:

  • Easykon for KNX updated to version 3.0.0 or higher.

  • Easykon for KNX connected to the local network via Ethernet cable.

  • Easykon for KNX connected to the KNX bus with the appropriate terminal.

  • Easykon for KNX correctly powered.

  • Having ETS installed on your PC and connected on the same network as Easykon for KNX

ETS 5 and previous

Easykon for KNX will be visible within ETS in the bottom left-hand panel by clicking on the drop-down menu.

Then select the device "Freedompro - Easykon for KNX" followed by its IP address and proceed to the normal use of ETS.

ETS 6

If you are using ETS 6 you can select the device in the window at the top right.

Then select the device "Freedompro - Easykon for KNX" followed by its IP address and proceed to the normal use of ETS.Attenzione:

The system programming function is currently not compatible with ETS version 5.7

The port used by Easykon for the IP gateway functionality is 3671, for more information please refer to the official KNX documentation.
